Steampunked Leeds Central Library
This is what it was all about:
The very lovely Debbie Moody is the Young People's Librarian at the Central Library. She is also involved in the Leeds Cosplay scene and into Steampunk as well. It had come to her attention that the Steampunk scene has generated a new world of authors as there is a great expanse to be explored in a literary sense. Victorian, science fiction, fantasy, gothic, 1920s - there is so much fun to be had both writing and reading about these adventures!
So if being into Steampunk means more people get into reading, then that HAS to be a good thing.
So I brought along FIVE STEAMPUNK AUTHORS for this day. Bringing themselves, a selection of their books to sell and to do a reading from as well followed by a brief Q&A session with signings if asked nicely....
CONFIRMED AUTHORS WERE:
Sam Stone
David J Howe
Warden Arkwright
Shevek Moore
John Paul Bernett
I also had a small market of stallholders, each selling something different.
Doctor Geof (representing artists) complete with The First Tea Company.
Clockwork Zeppelin (Creator/inventor) both hot off the exhibition at the Bradford Industrial Museum.
Emma Brackenbury (jewellery)
Dawn from Ages of Elegance (Ladieswear)
Kath Downs from Cult Angel (Steampunk bookmarks)
Esdi Hughes from A Little Ginger (cheeky carpet bags)
Dave Petty Chapman (military accessories)
Travelling Man (local Leeds comic store with a great selection of appropriate books & gifts)
Elephantmen with one of its creators
Two members of the Big Snakes Orchestra singing and selling CDs and other interesting stuff
There was also a photo booth set up from the West Yorkshire Playhouse with a selection of costumes/accessories for people to try out as well as buy.
